Laughter Really is The Best Medicine
A good laugh can undo the effects of stress by reducing stress-related hormones and peptide levels.
A good laugh releases endorphins, a natural opiate that creates a positive state of mind.
A good laugh can help to boost the immune system, increasing levels of anti-viral and anti-infection cells and also increases the levels of Immunoglubulin A, which is the first line of defence against viral infections such as coughs and colds.
A good laugh provides an excellent cardio workout. The heart rate increase in one minute of hearty laughter is equivalent to that achieved in ten minutes on an exercise machine.
A good laugh helps to increase circulation, thereby flushing the body and organs of waste products.
A good laugh increases the supply of oxygen to the body and brain
A good laugh can also have a cathartic effect, enhancing the free flow of emotions. Laughter can dislodge blocked emotions stored in the body which can be the source of ongoing physical, mental and emotional problems.
A good laugh is a fun and simple form of excercise. Twenty minutes of laughter in the morning can give lasting energy for the day.
A good laugh provides an internal massage of the digestive tract and internal organs and creates circulation in our lymphatic sytem which is crucial to a healthy immune system.
LAUGHTER YOGA WORKSHOPS
A typical Laughter Yoga Session would last for around 90 minutes with a 15 minute break in the middle. During that time we would practice a number of different laughter excercises followed by a Laughter Meditation.
There are no difficult yoga positions involved as the yoga aspect focuses on deep Pranayama breathing.
It is advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing and to have a yoga mat or similar for the meditation period.

LAUGHTER YOGA
The word "Yoga" comes from the Sanskrit "Yuj" which means to integrate and harmonise. To practise Yoga means integrating all aspects of life and harmonising body mind and spirit.
Laughter Yoga International was founded by Dr Madan Kataria, MD, an Indian Cardiologist practising in Mumbai. Whilst researching for an article he was writing, he found that many modern scientific studies described the many proven benefits of laughter on the human mind and body. He also discovered that our body cannot differentiate between acted and genuine laughter, both producing the same chemical reactions.
Dr Kataria saw that there were similarities between Pranayama Yoga exercises and laughter and incorporated both into what he called "laughter yoga", creating a blend of yogic deep breathing, stretching and laughter excercises.

The teacher and guru, Osho, told of the three laughing monks. "They did only one thing: they would enter a village, stand in the market place and start laughing. They would laugh with their whole being and suddenly people would become aware. Then others would also get the infection and a crowd would gather. The whole crowd would start laughing just because of them. What was happening? The whole town would get involved. Then they would move to another town. They were loved very much. That was their only sermon, their only message; that laugh. And they would not teach; they would simply create a situation.
"Then it happened that they became famous all over the country. Three laughing monks. All of China loved them, respected them. Nobody had ever preached in such a way that life must be just a laughter and nothing else. They were not laughing at anyone in particular. They were simply laughing as if they had understood the Cosmic Joke. And they spread so much joy all over China without using a single word. People would ask for their names, but they would simply laugh. So that became their name - the three laughing monks."
